Ingo Maurer presents the new floor lamp Nuunu

A play of light with golden paper: the Ingo Maurer nuunu floor lamp is a delicate and poetic design object that reflects the poetry of a golden autumn. The nuunu by designer Flavia Thumshirn, who has been part of the Ingo Maurer design team for 20 years, emits warm light through the reflection of three golden paper circles, each of which is attached to stainless steel rods almost two metres high. The filigree rods protrude from the centre of a square base made of blued steel, into which three glass spheres are set at defined intervals. The glass spheres made of high-quality crystal glass without inclusions are illuminated from below in such a way that they appear to glow and at the same time direct the light onto the underside of the gold paper. When switched on, the luminaire creates a beautiful shadow play on the ceiling that varies depending on the brightness setting. nuunu has a dim-to-warm function, i.e. the light colour of the LEDs becomes warmer when it is dimmed using the foot switch on the cable. Even when switched off, nuunu is a design object and part of the interior design, reflecting the ambient light on the golden paper. The leaves of the nuunu floor lamp by Ingo Maurer can be rotated and swivelled on the rods as required, changing the interplay of light and shadow. The paper circles with a diameter of approx. 20 cm look like autumn leaves on a branch thanks to the impact metal coating. The rods are not rigid, but taper at the upper end and can sway slightly, inspired by the organic shape of reeds. With nuunu, Flavia Thumshirn has created a floor lamp as if from nature.

The inspiration for nuunu was a trip to the lake in the autumn evening sun. The golden light caught in the yellow leaves on a large tree, reflecting the blue water below. Designer Flavia Thumshirn, who has been part of the design team for over 20 years, translated this mood into her new luminaire. Three recessed glass spheres rest on a square base made of blued steel and are illuminated from below. In the centre of the base plate, assigned to the three spheres at a defined distance, there are three stainless steel rods almost two metres high, at the ends of which gold-plated paper is attached to the rod with a holder. The paper has a diameter of approx. 20 cm and is coated with gold-coloured leaf metal, giving it the appearance of autumn leaves on a branch. Flavia Thumshirn uses a trick used by old shoemakers to direct the light into the leaves. They needed a lot of light for the precision work on the shoe and therefore used glass bodies filled with water, which they placed in front of candles. By refracting the light, they focussed the light on the area to be worked on at the same time. The glass spheres from nuunu are made of high-quality crystal glass without inclusions and are therefore particularly suitable for this type of lighting.

But this Ingo Maurer lamp is also a real highlight when switched off. With its delicate, elegant appearance, it is not immediately recognisable as a luminaire at first glance. It is reminiscent of a sculpture that radiates calm and can be used in a variety of ways. Whether in your own living room, in a hotel lobby or in a waiting room: wherever nuunu is used, it is never just a luminaire, but always an accessory. Thanks to the composition gold coating, the leaves reflect the ambient light. In combination with the tall, slender rods, which ensure gentle movement, the luminaire is reminiscent of reeds in the wind.
